72 days have passed since the first Covid-19 case was found in Mlata.
51,000 swabs and 588 cases later, restrictive measures are being reduced.
The positive cases each day are not very low compared to two weeks ago, and they are definitely higher than those recorded in the first few days, then the pandemic issue started in Malta. In the very beginning, many Maltese people were sharing their opinion,so that the government closes many facilities in Malta, some even suggested a complete lock down!
So what happened that changed so many people’s mind? Why are the elderly (65+) allowed to go out now ? According to Dr Chris Fearn, Malta may open it’s borders in Summer and close them later along the year. This automatically raises the question is the economy being given more priority than education ? Even more is the economy being put prior to health ?
This dilemma is in fact correct, as different organisations in Malta are in disagreement. The MUMN is encouraging people to sat at home as the Covid -19 is still very dangerous, while the MHRA is stating that this is the right time for people to go back to work.
Another question that comes out of these new decisions may be – is Malta heavily influenced by the measures taken in Italy? …. Malta closed it’s borders when Italy did and it’s opening them when they are. Despite the first wave not being over and the R factor/ week still going up.
Having taken all this into consideration, are the decisions being taken still following what Dr Chris Fearn stated when he said we should turn the (coronovirus) first wave into a river?
